 Document Conventions – Lists:

Numbered lists

Use a numbered list for procedures or other sequential lists. Introduce a procedure with a heading that uses an infinitive phrase or imperative, depending on your group’s style, and avoid explanatory text after the phrase. Capitalize the first word of each entry.

Good Examples

To log on to a database

1. On the File menu, click Open Database.

2. In User Name, type your name.

3. In Password, type your password, and then click OK.

The basic steps for adding scrolling to your application are as follows:

1. Define a size for your documents.

2. Derive your view class from CScrollView.

3. Pass the documents’ size to the SetScrollSizes method of CScrollView whenever the size changes.

4. Convert between logical coordinates and device coordinates if you are passing points between GDI and non-GDI functions.

Document Conventions – Lists:

If you introduce a list with a fragment, do not treat the list and its introduction like one continuous sentence. Do not use semicolons or commas to end list items, and do not insert and before the last list element.

Good Example

Choose a printer before creating a presentation.

Install all the fonts and printers that you will use by selecting them in the Print Setup dialog box.

The database includes:

Reports

Forms

Tables

Modules

Bad Example

Forms,

Tables, and

Modules.
